Anxiety Counselling for Men Geelong | GMCS

Anxiety looks different in men

Anxiety in men rarely looks the way it does in a textbook. It does not always show up as worry or panic. For many men it shows up as irritability, restlessness, or a constant low-level tension that never quite goes away. It shows up as drinking too much, staying up too late, or throwing yourself into work just to quiet the noise in your head.

Many men spend years living with anxiety without ever naming it that way. They call it stress. They say they are just busy. They tell themselves that real men do not get anxious.

But anxiety is not a weakness. It is a signal from your nervous system that something needs attention. And it responds very well to the right kind of support.

How counselling helps with anxiety

Mark Randall’s approach to anxiety counselling is grounded in understanding how your particular anxiety developed, and what is keeping it going. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Depending on what is most useful for you, sessions may include:

  • Understanding the relationship between your thoughts, your body and your emotional responses
  • Identifying the specific situations, relationships, or patterns that trigger your anxiety
  • Learning how to work with your nervous system rather than fighting against it
  • Exploring whether past experiences — including how you were raised as a man — are fuelling current anxiety
  • Building practical day-to-day tools that help you stay grounded when things feel overwhelming
  • Addressing the shame that often sits beneath male anxiety, keeping men stuck

Common presentations Mark works with

  • Generalised anxiety and chronic worry
  • Workplace stress and burnout
  • Performance anxiety
  • Health anxiety
  • Social anxiety
  • Anxiety arising from relationship difficulties or separation
  • Anxiety linked to trauma or significant life changes

A safe, private space

Mark understands that for many men, admitting to anxiety feels hard. Sessions are completely confidential, and you will never be judged for how you are feeling. Many men find that the first session is the hardest part — and that once they are in the room, or on the call, it feels much more manageable than they expected.
