Relationship Counselling Geelong | Men & Couples

Connection, warmth, relationships,

When relationships stop working

Relationships are one of the most important things in a man’s life — and one of the hardest things to navigate when they start to break down. Whether it is a growing distance between you and your partner, recurring arguments that never seem to get resolved, or a relationship that has reached a crossroads, the pain of a struggling relationship touches every part of your life.

Most men were never taught how to do relationships. The emotional vocabulary, the ability to stay present during conflict, the skill of truly listening — these things were not modelled for most of us growing up. That is not a personal failing. It is a gap that can be filled, with the right support.

What relationship counselling with Mark covers

Mark works with men individually and with couples. Whether you are coming alone or with your partner, the work is focused on real, practical change.

Sessions often explore:

  • Communication patterns — why conversations go wrong and how to change that
  • Emotional availability — learning to be present with your partner in a way that builds trust
  • Understanding your own patterns and where they came from
  • Conflict — how to disagree without damaging the relationship
  • Intimacy and connection — rebuilding closeness that may have faded
  • Navigating separation or divorce in a way that minimises harm, especially where children are involved
  • Co-parenting and maintaining a respectful relationship after separation

Individual sessions for men in relationships

Many men find it more comfortable to start individually. You do not need your partner to be involved for the work to be valuable. Often, when one person in a relationship begins to change, the relationship itself begins to shift.

Working individually also gives you the space to explore your own patterns, needs and feelings — without the dynamics of a couples session shaping what you say.

Couples sessions

When both partners are ready to engage, couples sessions provide a structured, neutral space to work through what is happening between you. Mark acts as a skilled guide, helping both of you hear each other more clearly and find a way forward — whether that means rebuilding your relationship or navigating separation with dignity.

Separation and divorce support

If your relationship has ended or is ending, Mark can support you through the practical and emotional challenges of separation. This includes managing grief and loss, parenting through separation, rebuilding identity and self-worth, and moving forward in a healthy way.
